Brit fic

So I'm fiddling with a short Sherlock fic (it was inevitable, my dear Watson) and I've realised two shocking things. 1) This is the first British TV show I've ever fangirled, and 2) this is the first thing I've ever written that's set in modern Britain, let alone in London.

The truly weird thing is how self-conscious I am about writing 'British' and how much I over-correct and double-guess myself. I actually feel more confident writing fic set in the US than I do in my home town! For example - 'taxi' or 'cab'? I'd use either, but I've seen 'Brit pickers' picking up 'cab' as an Americanism. Is it? Same goes for 'TV' and 'telly'. I use both. Argh!

I have this strange feeling that I'll post this fic and have someone pick up an Americanism! lol
